Teaser on the back of the paperback version of Rumo by Walter Moers-
Rumo is a little Wolperting who will one day become the greatest hero in the history of
Zamonia. Armed with Dandelion, his talking sword, he fights his way across Overworld
and Netherworld, two perilous regions chock - full of adventures and unforgettable
characters: Rala, a beautiful girl Wolperting who cultivates a hazardous relationship with
death; Gornab the Ninety - Ninth, the demented king of the Netherworld; Urs of Snows,
who thinks more of cooking then of fighting; Professor Ostafan Kolibri, who goes in
search of the Non - Existent Teenies, Ushan DeLucca, the finest and most weather -
sensitive swordsman in Zamonia; and, worst luck, the deadly Metal Maiden.

"Some miracles can only happen in the dark" - Professor Abdullah Nightingale
Review by Jack (Concord MA USA, 13)-
The story of Rumo starts with him as a house pet who is continually adored by his family
of Hackonian dwarfs. All is perfect in his little world until he wakes up with a pain in his
mouth. Unable to find any adoration or comfort, Rumo walks around the barn, except this
time he walks on two legs instead of four. When he finds his family, they are being stuffed
into sacks by the dreaded and horrible Demonocle. Taken to their floating island and
awaiting being eaten, Rumo meets Volzotan Smyke, a shark grub. From there, Rumo's
adventure escalate to an amazing pitch with talking forests, crazy barmen and the ruler of
the underworld.
I would rate this book 4/5 Stars because it was exciting and filled with adventure and
suspense. The characters vary with the landscape of Zamonia in their originality and
depth. The author reminds me of Douglas Adams (who wrote Hitchhiker's Guide to the
Galaxy), because he states a common sentence in a way that causes me to burst out
laughing. Overall, it was a thoroughly satisfying book with a great plot.
